Ground transport · Festival operations
Sydney Writers’
Festival
Authors, presenters, staff and audiences moving between airports, hotels and venues across Greater Sydney, for nine days a year, four years running.

The brief
Sydney Writers’ Festival is one of the largest literary festivals in the world: more than 200 events across a week each May, with well over a hundred Australian and international guests, centred on Carriageworks in Eveleigh and spreading to Sydney Town Hall, the State Library of New South Wales and venues across the city. Every one of those guests has to be somewhere at a fixed time, and most of them have just got off a long flight.
What Ali did
Across four festival seasons, Ali managed the planning and delivery of the festival’s ground transport operation. That meant building the transfer schedules, matching drivers and vehicles to movements, coordinating airport and hotel transfers, operating presenter and public shuttle services, responding to unscheduled requests and absorbing the continual program changes a festival that size generates.
During the festival itself she supervised a team of 10 drivers and kept real-time communication running to hold more than 400 movements safe and on schedule across nine intensive days.
How it went
On the strength of her work with Sydney Writers’ Festival, Ali has been appointed Transport Manager for Brisbane Writers Festival, extending the same specialist role to another of Australia’s major literary events.
